Some Test Animations in Blender Made into a Music Video

Print PDF

I wanted to share a music video that I made while doing some tests in Blender. I am currently planning for an upcoming animated short using Blender and I wanted to do some tests first to see if I was going to be able to use some of the features I wanted. Also, I wanted a little bit of practice first to iron out some of the wrinkles in the workflow before I got into the larger animation. The result of these tests is this music video. I do wish that I could have spent a little more time on the actual animation part but I needed to move on to getting ready for the animated short.

Here are some of the things I was testing:

  • Blender's cloth simulation
  • The Miku character rig
  • Camera movement and scripts
  • Blender's node compositing system
  • Syncing animation to music
  • The workflow from Blender to Premeire Pro
  • Blender's library, linking, and proxy system
  • My new DrQueue renderfarm setup

Some statistics:

  • The video is 5760 frames long
  • Only 4517 frames were rendered (some frames get used more than once in the video)
  • Only 2231 frames were animated (some animations are rendered from multiple camera angles)
  • There are 5 blender files and 15 scenes
  • It took about 19 hours (real time, not cpu time) to render
  • Average time for a single frame to render was 90 seconds
