Awesome Response to Release of Jario64

Print PDF

I have received very positive feedback since the release of the open source project Jario 64. Here is an update for the road ahead ...

First, I will fix some of the obvious deficiencies such as being able to reload roms without restarting, and being able to configure different plugins. Then I will post a game compatibility chart and release a beta version of Jario 64 for people to test with. Then once other required features are added and bugs are fixed, I will release a 1.0 version. Unless I find someone willing to help me with the audio plugin, then I probably won't have sound right away, but I will try to get it working during the beta. Please leave comments and tell me what you think is of highest importance to get fixed or added. Thanks.

that sounds great. Well I do have a list of what I think is the most important. Not in any particular order though:

-dynarec recompilation (cmon, everyone knows that things run better this way right? lol)

-netplay (prefer it to be over an ad hoc network regardless of the amount of players who can play together if possible).

I thought I had a bigger list but I guess that is it. lol. I mean really the thing everyone wants is full speed emulation which I' sure you're already working on. Netplay over ad-hoc is always fun. This way you are directly connected to your friend. :D

Just curious, but is there any erd (estimated release date) for the next version of Jario64?

    Wow... great emu!
It works really well... I'm surprised that it runs so quickly using JAVA!

Re: the comment above, is a dynarec even possible? I think the big thing with this emu is that it's completely platform independent. Mac, Windows and Linux users can all use the same binary... amazing! Years ago you needed some pretty hardcore assembly code and/or a dynarec in order to get speed. With this... you don't? But it still runs full-speed on my rather dated hardware... AMAZING!

Not sure if I'm the only one, but I'm using it on a Mac. On MacOS 10.6.1 the controls don't appear to work... maybe this is something to do with the way MacOS deals with input? Not sure... I'm willing to test it out if you're keen on fixing this one.

A GREAT emulator that just popped out of nowhere!
Can't believe you actually did that with Java, you're AWESOME!
Can't wait for the next releases to come!
    Keep up the good work!

    @John-My 50c

I assumed it was possible but anyway to make the emulator faster is always a plus right? I mean with emulators written in java they depend highly on the cpu's speed and performance. I've tried pj64 on 3 dif machines and they run the same but with jario64 it depended on the processor in the computer.

Awesome work man! Have you ever considered porting it for Dingoo a-320? They say that only 400 mhz (mips32 based)without FPU unit or graphics accelerator would make it impossible, what do you think? Maybe the mips to mips dinarec could save a little of speed?

Thank you for your great work! Accuracy is really good, speed is decent, and I'm sure compatibility will get there. Please remember to add the c-buttons and D-pad to the input plugin for the next release, as many games are unplayable without them.

Awsome emulator love the fact that it was written using Java because its very easy to use and portable. (I use a school cpu and because of a software restriction policy I cant run .exe files so its very useful) Heres of list of things I think can be done.

    - Make sure it stays Java!! (and can be run from the web)

    - Speed it up by just a little bit.

    - Redo the control scheme so that it includes the c-stick (I would like to play 007)

    - Make it so that when I click out of the screen the controls dont stop working. + When you dont press any controls for a few minutes (i.e watching a LONG game video) that the controls wont stop working.

    - Definantly add online as a function to play on.

    - I wouldnt worry about this TOO much but it doesnt support 7z files that some n64 emulators can.

    - Definatly add a full screen option: Some games wont have a screen as large as the next (i.e Super Mario 64's screen is larger than Super Smash Bros.) so you can actually see weird animati...
  • Sir Agility  - C-Pad Compatibility
Please add in a C-Pad just like a lot of people have been saying it is impossible to play some games without it.

The only other thing is to add compatibility for more games. (try to go for N64 hits like Pokemon Stadium 2 and 007 Goldeneye) :no-comments:
